Fourth of July CelebrationSince 1997 our family has celebrated the 4th of July with 60+ friends and neighbors in our own backyard. Mark Turpin (our local Santa Claus) cooks us a BIG pot of Brunswick stew using an old family recipe. Our slicing and dicing crew starts putting all the ingredients into the pot about 11 AM. We sit around the pot of stew cooking over an open fire and help Mark stir and taste the stew all afternoon. Jugglers, dancers and guitar players entertain us as we sip margaritas and beer. About 4 PM Mark declares the stew "ready", so we stuff ourselves with yummy stew and assorted veggies, salads and desserts contributed by the guests. It is a fun way to celebrate the 4th!
