Andy and I visited the Big Apple -- New York City -- in November 2000.

We went in the United Nations Building.  In the pictures above we're standing outside looking at the interesting statues and artwork.

One morning when we left our hotel to get breakfast we saw all the streets blocked and a motorcade passed by with Yasser Arafat going to the United Nations headquarters.  There were lots of police cars with sirens, a limo, and an armored truck with soldiers holding machine guns.

This picture to the right shows a brownstone house which is a very old single family dwelling on Manhattan ... very expensive real estate.

This was the view from our hotel room in East Manhattan.

During our stay we saw two Broadway plays ... Les Miserables (starring Mark McVey as Jean Valjean) and The Full Monty.  Both were excellent.

No buses and cars ... plenty of rocks, trees and bushes in Central Park ... all such stark contrast to the noisy streets and tall buildings of the city.

Andy is standing in front of the house where our friend Leslie lives in the little town of Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island.

We toured the Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor.  It's two doors down from Leslie's house.
